What impressed me about Steve is that when he first came to my house to discuss the sale process, he had done all his homework and already had a portfolio of comparable homes in my area that had recently sold. And this was even before I had committed to going with his agency. I had interviewed two other agents, both were very good as well, but I liked the fact that Steve had done his research and I decided to go with his team. At every stage, Steve provided quality service, from the staging designers to finding me a handyman to fix a few things around the house prior to showing. It had been about three decades since I've worked with a real estate agent and things sure have changed since my last experience. It was a little shocking to see how practically everything was done by text, email and and only occasionally by phone compared to the old days when there was great deal more personal interaction for such a huge transaction. I guess this is now the way things are even in this business. Regardless, we had a good experience with Steve as our agent.
In this case it was the selling of my mother's property where she has resided for over 45 years. The challenge was getting the house sold before my mom returned from Florida so she wouldn't have to deal with showings, inspections, etc...all very difficult for an elderly person. Steve had less then two weeks to pull this off and amazingly he did it! The Sold sign went up literally as I was picking her up at the airport! We really can't thank you enough for the impeccable timing and all your hard work.
I would recommend Steve if you want to sell your home. He is very punctual, very responsive in getting back to us, he was very kind with my mother as this was a very hard decision for her, he even goes above and beyond in that we need a basement stove removed as per a condition of the sale and he has promised to take care of it for us...and lastly, he sent gorgeous flowers arrangements to not only my mom, but to me as well! Such a lovely touch:)

We've used Steve's services twice now—The first time we were relocating out of province and selling our home. I challenged Steve to get us a certain price, to at least try it for a week, after which he could reduce it. Of course, he ended up surpassing it and getting us the highest price for any townhouse in our area for that time period and selling the house in less than 2 days—Not having your home feel like an open house with numerous ‘strangers’ traipsing through is a God-send. Now 3 years later and another relocation, Steve was called upon again. This house was purchased without me ever stepping foot into it until months after I purchased it! I was pretty particular about what I wanted and had a less than grande budget given the housing market in the NCR but he got me everything including the desirable cast iron tub! Radical honesty? He's not easy as we would fight like brother and sister and I didn’t know him before these sales. But I would NOT recommend anyone else IF you want to get your dream house or sell your house for the best price for the market! Steve is so driven to be the best, to get you the best, that he just won’t stop working for you. On top of that, he is incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to what to do to sell your place vs what won't make a difference--This saved us thousands when we were trying to list what little things we should do to ready our home to sell and what he convinced us not to do—He was right (as much as I grumbled to admit it!) Steve is also well-known in real estate and has established relationships that we were also surprised what a difference it made. We had an offer come in but it wasn't sitting right with him and he didn't know the realtor. It fell through. No more of that (for him). After that we received 3 offers and all were vetted by him and he knew the realtors for each. AND one of the offers was even higher than the first incredible offer that we had received. The other amazing quality is he always has a person… be it a stager, a landscaper, a floor finisher, a person to fix or do or get… whatever it is that you need, he knows them. I can’t tell you how valuable that is when you are under a time crunch or panicking about something or just need to know someone who knows someone. I don’t write a lot of recommendations or give referrals, but Steve has gone beyond and well above what a realtor does. Even with this last house there were some legal issues that had nothing to do with the real estate side of things but strictly with our lawyer and her lawyer, yet it was Steve who jumped in to assist when our lawyers were not jumping in quickly enough for him. That’s what you get when you hire him. Like me, he is the anti-procrastinator. If you want it done right, done well and done with great knowledge and interest, choose him. Don’t get frustrated when he is right… most of the time 😊 (okay like almost all of the time).

So I bought a house during COVID....
Where to begin?
I had worked with Steve before when I bought my first property a few years ago and it was a great experience, so I didn't hesitate to call on him again for my next purchase.
In fact, more than a year out, we met up with him to get the lay of the land again and to renew our communication and indeed, he started sending us info and options right away, patiently waiting more than a year before we indicated that we were ready to take action and start viewing properties.
We started viewings in a tough market: low inventory and bidding wars. We could at least feel confident in the insights Steve was sharing. He helped us understand neighbourhood values, property attributes which do or do not justify pricing, preliminary insights into observations that nay come up in home inspections etc. I really liked that he was sure to highlight and risks or downsides when we may have gotten overexcited about a property, indicating absolutely no pressure to rush a deal. Conversely, he also pointed out value-driving aspects that we may have overlooked in other cases to give us a real shot at making a great evaluation and decision.
We made two offers, one at asking and one over asking, and were unsuccessful- not surprising given a statistic of multiple bids per property over the last several months! As much as it was disappointing not to get them, we actually were not upset because we felt confident in our value assessment and would not have wanted to pay more than we offered.
Then.... COVID happened. In the middle of our search. Steve adapted to these crazy times by immediately implementing safety measures such as bringing gloves to showings and maintaining distance, but all the while keeping things moving for us.... We have reasons compelling us to purchase a house now, so we just could not afford to wait COVID out. Most importantly, his fact-based perspective and measured communication style allowed us to keep calm and just trust the process.
So we carried on, and by our third offer, we were successful and it's the best of all the houses we have seen, and at the best price for value we have seen (in this case, asking). We are thrilled! He set us up with an amazing, thorough inspector and happens to be interested in design as well and has generously shared ideas and great contacts for certain reno/design jobs.
Oh, and The KICKER: I have a property to rent out! Also during COVID! That has to happen at the same time! I was STRESSED out! I was going to go with a property management company to list my condo but Steve mentioned he did that too, so I though why not. 11 hours after my listing was posted, I have a signed lease, and I'm now an investment property owner.
Steve is quick to be in touch, by text or email, doesn't forget things or let things slip through the cracks, really help you navigate the waters and make the process simple and since you end up spending a certain amount of time with your agent, it's good to know that he can hold a conversation and he's really easy to get along with.
For 1 million % sure, m buying a house and renting mine out during COVID was looking pretty risky for many, m many reasons, but Steve turned out to be my one-man risk mitigation plan.
Thanks to two great deals with Steve over the years, I'm sure I'll be doing more business with him in the years to come, when I buy my third property to add to the portfolio.

We hired Steve Hamre to help us sell our house in Orleans - he is very knowledgeable about this area of the city and was the best choice for realtor for us. Although it took longer than we expected to sell, Steve was always there to answer questions and address concerns.
We also hired him to help us buy our next house. We had a specific budget and wanted to live in a very popular neighborhood. He gave us great advice when we ended up in a bidding war with 2 of the houses we had put offers on. In the end we ended up exactly where we wanted to be, within our budget (thanks Steve!).
I would describe him as a confident, knowledgeable agent who remains calm and collected in all situations. I highly recommend him!
