Les Rivières

Part of the Greater Québec City metropolitan area, Les Rivières is a borough within Québec, Quebec.

Transportation

Travelling by car is especially convenient in this area. Most real estate listings are a short drive from the nearest highway, such as Autoroute Charest, and it is easy to find a place to park. In contrast, this area is not very transit friendly. Nevertheless, the borough is served by over 50 bus lines, and bus stops are not very far-removed from most houses. There are relatively few pedestrians out on the streets of this part of Québec, despite the fact that meeting daily needs is convenient on foot. In contrast, Les Rivières is reasonably bicycling-friendly since there are few hills to challenge bike riders.

Services

It is generally an option for home buyers in Les Rivières to purchase their groceries on foot. Rue Soumande is among the best streets for food stores. Residents benefit from over 100 restaurants and cafes as well. With respect to education, it is a rather short walk to get to primary schools and daycares from any location in Les Rivières. On the other hand, there are only a few high schools and therefore they can be a long walk away. In addition to public schools, there are private primary and secondary schools.

Character

The character of Les Rivières is exemplified by its slower-paced environment. This area is very quiet overall, as noise from the streets and other parts of the city is rarely an issue - although that is not the case closer to one of the railway lines, Autoroute Laurentienne, Autoroute Henri-IV or the airport (Héliport de Québec (Sureté du Québec)). Lastly, it is easy to access parks in the borough since there are over 50 of them close by for residents to enjoy.

Housing

Small apartment buildings are the most common housing type, representing most buildings in Les Rivières, and the rest are mainly single detached homes. This borough also has a good choice of unit sizes; properties range from lofts to four or more bedrooms. The split between homeowners and renters is about even. About one third of homes in this borough were constructed after the year 2000, while the majority of the remaining buildings were constructed in the 1960s and the 1980s.
